Bikes I had part 2 Yamaha XS650

This was mine first XS650
It was a D from 1977
A couple of weeks ago I checked the registration,
and the guy who bought it from me 14 years ago, stil got it

This was mijn home made caferacer.
It had a 750cc kit from the USA
The kit was used on dirt track races.
It was really fast

Another beautiful caferacer I bought from a friend of mine
He was busy to change it with high handlebars
no (moto guzzi) lemans fearing and more
Didn't like that and bought the bike to change it back to caferacer

Special story about this XS2
found in a shed where they did restore engines of little ships
So this bike was fully covered with diesel oil during the years.
This was also my luck, because this was the result when tthe Yamaha was polished

This bike I bought because I liked the '70s style of it
It was an eyecatcher

This was a SE but I changed it in an early version of the seventies.
Except the wheels as you can see
But includng the metal sidepanels
So you can make them fit on SE frame

Ok this is the 2nd start of the BMW R60/5 after 20 years in a barn

Just put petrol in and a new battery
The sound is with open carbs.

So just a try out

donderdag 21 juni 2012

I bought a BMW 60/5 from the 70's & update

Original 60/5 from 1973
Matching numbers and original sold in the Netherlands on 4 july 1973
Frame number check says may 1973 so this is beautiful
The last owner bought it in 1981, so he had it for 31 years.
Didn't ride for the last 20 years, just standing in a barn
(I heard he forgot he had one in the barn.....)
The roof fell down on the bike and now she got 2 little dents in the tank
so that's a pity
Put a new battery in and fresh petrol .......
Yep she started
Turn of the switch and start cleaning the bike
Looks good now the dirt is gone
no leaks, but it can happen if you gonna ride this
but for now......
Gonna change the oil and do the valves
check the ignition
clean the carburators
Check all the electricity
and hopefully I got an nice starting R60/5 in my shed
I think Im gonna leave it the way it is
we call it patina
or change it in a cafeacer or even hot rod rockabilly bobber
Like Ricky Nelson sang:

DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
Did some cleaning this morning

25-6-'12

Started today
Engine runs very nice and quiet.
I think this BMW is a good runner.
Gearbox switch very well in all gears.
Clutch is good and handles very light.

Got 84.000 km or 42.400 miles on the speedo
want to change it into a '70's caferacer
It has spoken wheels
and double front disc brakes
I believe
it got power and torque enough
for a caferacer old style
979 ccm or 59.74 cubic inches
2 cilinder boxer 4 stroke
60 HP @ 6500 rpm
73,5 Nm @ 4000rpm
192 km/h or 119.3 mph

I was looking on youtube for brit bikes and music.
I saw a picture of Wild Bob Burgess and watch the video.
Great photo's and good music, but almost at the end,
there was a picture of me.
It is the photo of the back of me with mine BSA A65 from 1971.
I was leavin that day to a rockers meeting and had mine leather jacket on and the helmet
full with (british) stickers.
You can see the wooden windmill in my garden aswell
How Dutch is that

Look at that speedo from SMITHS

This photo I took from mine BSA Rocket from 1964
As you can see on this picture,
the speedo was very rare I think
It goes clockwise, started from the left bottom.
As far as I know it, they normally starts at the right top...
Mayby it was a speedo for a police bike?
Does anybody know.....?

My first british bike was a Triumph Bonneville T140

I never forget my first british bike.
It was a Bonneville T140 from 1977
Yes it was original a jubilee, but as you see, during
the years changed a lot.

I was very pleased with the bike
It did run like a brand new one
Fast aswell and a beautiful sound with the Norton peashooters

Well now the pics of this bike and later I'm gonna tell you more about the bike

I always wanted a british bike.
I am into the RnR scene and it was for me
the bike for a rocker.
I loved the movie with Marlon Brando, was into 50's music
and my friends drove cadillacs chevrolets pick ups BSA  and triumphs aswell.
So it has to be a fast bike...
Bonneville 750
So I drove the roads with it and was really enjoing it.
It was a very good bike, but I wanted it to change a little bit.
You know how it goes
Bigger petrol tank, other this other that, so before you knew it,
it's changed but it felt not like mine first bike anymore...
It wasn't that red machine I bought
So I sold it
Wish I never did
Now I'm restless with bikes
Always changing
I guess it's mine curse
Well here a picture just before I sold it

BSA B40 WD

This one is a BSA B40 WD
It´s manufactered from '66 to '72
It's original an army bike
WD means War Department
For the road it was called a B40 STAR
The Star looked different than this WD one

So this one was changed in a 60's (little bit of a)
caferacer trim.
But it had the looks of a Rocker bike, that's for sure
The blue grey colour was very nice to look at.
So you see, not everything has to be chrome or polished

Here's a AJS model 14
This was a 250cc one cilinder, which was largely to cut costs made up of parts of James, which was joined in 1951 to AMC.
Of James, the fenders, the tank, the hubs, the swing arm, the nacelle, the saddle, the wheel, the rear position lamp and initially also the front fork, although later models got the teledraulic front fork.
The 250cc engine was newly developed by AMC. He had the appearance of a block engine, but had-hiding behind the left carter lid-a separate gearbox.
The engine remained in production until 1965.

This bike I found in unrestored condition
So what you see is how I found it.
Only I did new tires and a new battery.

Here are mine AJS model 14 and Triumph T140 on the back of the MATCHLESS NEWS of the
AJS & MATCHLESS Owners Club
North American Section

Ok here's the sound of the little bike
GREAT SOUND for such a little bike (250cc)
Also my dog Laika... and a bit of the Triumph T140

Leaving Norfolk with Triumph T100

Richard a friend of mine from the UK recorded this on his telephone
when I left there after staying a couple of days.

You hear Richard and his wife Topsy and my friend Kevin an his wife Elsie.
Kevin and Richard also do the disco at RnR gigs
They also do every year a benefit with bands like Flying Saucers - Crazy Jay and more
Last weekend they had a benefit evening with Dynamite Horton
